Just today, a lender rejected my application based on a report from Equifax claiming that I'm deceased. I've already taken action by disputing this and trying to rectify the information. Tomorrow, I plan to visit the Social Security Administration to find out if they are providing my deceased label. Do you think there are any other steps I should consider taking, or is focusing on the dispute my best option right now?

The only thing you can do to correct the report is to dispute with the credit reporting agency. They should investigate your case and find out why you’re reported as deceased. In case the social security agency labels you as deceased too, it might be a problem with your SSN and you should clarify the situation with SSA. Otherwise, the CRA is responsible for the error and should correct the report. When I had the same situation I reached out to a consumer rights lawyer near me, so I suggest you get in touch with an attorney too.
